“NETFLIX AND CHILL”- Binge Watching ‘Marvel/Netflix: JESSICA JONES’

HEYYY-LO fellow Bingers! Welcome back to our latest addition to the Marvel Inc Blog, “NETFLIX AND CHILL..” This time around, we discuss season one of Marvel/Netflix’s latest and greatest show.. “JESSICA JONES”

And when I say, greatest. I do mean GREATEST! (Early warning.. SPOILERS APLENTY!!)

Jessica Jones, is a hard drinking P.I. Catching cheating spouse’s and finding missing people, who happens to have super human strength and ‘flying’ abilities. When a couple from a small town drop by asking for help to find thier missing daughter. Jessica reluctantly takes the job. During the investigation, the ensuing clues reveal that a Dark and Dangerous man from her past is behind it all. Can Jessica overcome her fear and guilt of her past and stop the menace that is.. KILLGRAVE!?

Jessica Jones was a HUGE surprise! A wonderful one at that. I figured it would be good. Marvel never fails.. But holy shit, I did not expect something that could possibly outdo thier previous Netflix show, DAREDEVIL.

The Writing was spot on. And to be fair, I never read the story it was based on, (JESSICA JONES: ALIAS by: BENDIS and GAYDOS) Which was published on Marvel’s Max line. A comic line for more mature readers. (Graphic situations and language stuff like that) and the show did not shy away from such content.

I mean, Jessica and Luke Cage bang each others brains out by the second half of the first episode. The show doesn’t shy away from getting a little graphic.. It gets pretty darn graphic! Decapitated  heads, Sex scenes, Urinations, Suicides, Murder, Blood gore, Dismembering, and some cussing.. Just to name a few.

The story itself is a real dark and twisted story. The style of it too was so fresh as well. Very Crime Noir, gritty. It really does stand out on its own. That’s what was so great too.. It was unlike anything else that Marvel does, yet it is still in the same universe. The way they incorporated Jessica and Luke’s super powers within a real life environment was very well done.

Jessica Jones has a fan-Fucking-tastic cast! Brilliant actors, with brilliant writing to back them up. I wasn’t a huge fan of Kristen Ritter’s casting as Jessica (only because i didn’t know who the heck she was..) But hot damn she OWNED IT!

This show introduced a number of characters into the MCU!  Trish Walker… Did not realize it at first.. But when I heard the name, Patsy Walker.. I did some research.. And whoa.. image

HELLCAT!? They brought Hellcat into the MCU! She’s not there yet, but it is only the first season and she’s getting there. (Hopefully by season two)

perfect.. I mean, PERFECT! Casting, actor, set-up, the way they used him, the way they wrote him, Fucking Perfect!! Check out episode 2 and the Bar Fight scene.. Pure Magic!  I can’t wait for his solo series!

They put fucking NUKE in this show.. NUKE?!? The character first appeared in.. I want to say episode 3 or 4 maybe.. As a NYPD officer.. They kept him around for so long, I’m thinking.. This guy has got to be someone if they keep pushing him in our  faces.. So with some research.. NUKE?! This mofo is NUKE?! They are bringing Nuke! Into the MCU! Talk about out of left fucking field.. Then they had him say, “Give me a Red!” I got such a hard-on!

Last but certainly not least..

The greatest portrayal of a Marvel Villain since Loki and Kingpin. Villains have been Marvel’s somewhat Achilles heel..They’ve  gotten better, (Ultron) But they did it this time.. They really DID IT! And most of it, well, ALL of it is credited to DAVID TENNENT. My god he was a delight! He made every episode he was in a joy to watch. Bravo Marvel!

Now for the bad stuff..

For most people.. Maybe some..( Not me to be clear.) May have felt a lot of the episodes dragged. I do admit, the show has a slow burn to get to the really good stuff.. But it was certainly worth the wait in my opinion. One such episode would have to be episode 8.. For a one hour show.. It felt like a two hour movie.. So there’s that.

Nuke is taken out of the picture near the end of the season and is left a huge unfinished puzzle.. Really wanted to see more of that story line. Perhaps season two or Luke Cage would be the place for that.

Abs the biggest mistake of the entire show!?.. (SPOILER!) They fucking kill off Purple Man! Marvel has a fucking bad habit of killing off their best villains. And Purple Man was one of them. You want to know why? Cause they made him too damn powerful to keep around! Before having his father get his arms chopped off and disposed in a kitchen garbage disposal unit. He had him help him increase his powers to control people.. And it worked! The fight between Luke and Jessica was freaking awesome! But he was just too damn powerful.. And to be fair, such a demented fuck, He HAD to die! But could you imagine the possibilities of a character like Purple Man showing up in Daredevil, or another season of Jessica Jones, or Agents of Shield.. Or The Avengers?! That would be sick! But alas, such dreams must remain as such.. Just dreams.. Farewell Purple Man, you’ll be.. Kinda missed, you sick fuck!

OVER ALL.. A great show! Worthy of multiple binge watching views. Great cast, great story! Such a wonderful addition to the ever expanding MCU.. I give MARVEL/NETFLIX’S: JESSICA JONES a score of 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 8/10 on the Binge Watching Scale. So if you haven’t checked it out yet. Clear 13 hours out of your day and Binge Jessica Jones..

So, until next time folks.. NETFLIX AND CHILL..
